SAPPORO
that particular structure! It looked good though all lit up, the park again was deep in snow and there were quite a few people out building snowmen and generally messing around in the snow. The park was a great centre point to the city and the vibe of the place was great., we were both really taken with Sapporo and were glad to have an extra day to explore the city some more.
We stayed out for as long as we could, but the snow had started to fall heavily and the temperature was dipping, so it was time to go and check out the local restaurants or bars to see if we could afford to eat out! There was a long shopping outdoor mall that had a host of shops, bars and restaurants so after wandering up and down it, we finally picked out a restaurant that wouldn’t need us to take out a second mortgage to eat in! It looked like it had a good veggie selection so all was good. We ordered food and a beer

but were slightly shocked when the food arrived to find that it wasn’t exactly what we thought it would be. It wasn’t the veggie delight we’d hoped for and the tofu dish had a good helping of some kind of meat on top - hmmmm. Rob didn’t mind eating it but I struggled, although I have to admit that I did eat from the bottom of the pile. I guess because basically you’re not going to get anything else you don’t really have much choice, and I was aware that a lot of food I had eaten in Southeast Asia hadn’t been entirely veggie. I guess in those situations you can only do your best, at least the Miso soup was definitely veggie. I think you have to become more tolerant of this types of things, they really do think you’re mad not to eat fish or meat, the looks on their faces when you ask for veggie stuff is usually one of just amazement. I have also come to the conclusion that being veggie is most definitely a Western luxury. But apart from the not quite what we ordered food, we still enjoyed it,
