TAMAN NEGARA
The journey into the rainforest was incredible - the forest just seemed to get thicker and thicker and more lush as we went further in. There were no proper roads and you really did get the feeling that you were a world away from the modern buzz of Kuala Lumpur. After around two hours, we reached the main village of Kuala Tahan. The boat stopped, and we were all told to get off. We were a little shocked at this stage, there were around a dozen “floating restaurants”, a hostel, and various other touristy things! We were thinking that this was not the peaceful middle of the jungle experience which we’d signed up for!!! To our relief a woman came round with a clipboard and when we confirmed our names we were shepherded onto another boat, similar but less plush! This boat then took us another fifteen minutes upstream to the Nusa Camp! Now this was more like it! There was a restaurant on the riverfront, and then behind were a variety of A frame cabins, cottages and a good few hostel dorms. All in all
a far more aesthetically pleasing vista!!!
We were given the key to our dorm, and made our way over the little suspension bridge into the main camp area. We’d been told that we had a four bed dorm, but when we got there we found six beds in the room. As we found out later though this didn’t matter one bit, as we had the dorm to ourselves for the whole time. It was fairly quiet, so the people there decided to spread the guests out between all the dorms rather than pack them all into one. This we thought was really sound, it meant that they had more rooms to clean, but they did seem to mind. It also meant that we had a much better deal than the people who’d paid more for their own room, as we had our own, and it was much bigger!! So, we chose the bunks with the best breeze from the fan and spread out!! J
