GREAT OCEAN ROAD & MELBOURNE
some photos - pure dedication! The drive had been great, but not all of it was exactly hugging the ocean as claimed in all of the holiday brochures. It didn’t really matter but it did make us chuckle that the Great Ocean Road in fact goes inland on more than one occasion for quite some miles!!! Again, we could have stayed around this area for a good few days as there were lots of forests and great walks. Later on we went for a walk up Sunset hill and as we were walking through the campsite we spotted a Koala and her Joey asleep up a tree! How fantastic to actually see a koala properly in the wild! The views from Sunset Hill were great but we could tell we weren’t going to be in for a great sunset so we decided to head down to Apollo Bay and get a take-away as neither of us could be bothered cooking, Rob fancied fish and chips, and the wine box was empty! Apollo Bay was also a lovely little spot with a great beach. Rob had his fish and chips and I got veggie burger and chips and we both instantly
decided once we had seen the portion sizes that a chips between us would have definitely done! We sat on the beach eating and watching the a couple of people out on the water in sea kayaks, and we did finally get a bit of a sunset. Needless to say neither of us finished our food, there was just far to much of it. We drove back to Bimbi Park, headed to the kitchen area and sat playing Yahtzee with a few glasses of wine!

The next day was going to be the highlight of the Great Ocean Road, the 12 Apostles and Shipwreck Coast. Over 80 ships have sunk along this part of the coast due to the rough Southern Ocean. The coast is lined with dramatic rock formations which in parts rise out of the ocean. We were very fortunate with the weather as it can be very unpredictable around these parts, due to it being basically opposite Antarctica. We drove to Port Campbell, set up camp then headed back to the 12
