GREAT OCEAN ROAD & MELBOURNE
The next morning we finished off the internet stuff and left around lunchtime. We were heading back on the quickest road to Melbourne, which was a very boring and slow road. We had planned to stay at a campsite just on the outskirts of Melbourne which was supposed to have good public transport to the city. It was also near to the airport as we had to drop the car off the next morning. It was going to be quite a shock to the system having to start carrying all of our stuff again, especially with the additional camping stuff!!! We got to the campsite and it was in the middle of a re-vamp probably having something to do with the upcoming Commonwealth Games!!! They wouldn’t give any discount so we decided to stay for one night then get a hostel in the city for the next 2 nights. We got there late afternoon and it had been a long drive so we just had a swim and chilled. We were quite amazed to find that there was free laptop internet, all of the difficulties we’d had getting internet and then poor Rob
spending all the previous day uploading the website - typical!!!
We had to drop the car off around 11 am and we were pretty sad to see it go. We left Rob’s rucksack at the left luggage in the airport, we were back there in a couple of days as we were flying from there to Uluru. Thankfully they have a really good bus link to the city so we didn’t end up carrying our bags too far. It was quite a shock to the system picking them up after the 3 weeks of luxury with a car!!! We’d picked a hostel out of Rough Guide and it was Ok, nothing special but then none of the hostels in Australia had been very good, so it wasn’t a surprise that it wasn’t great.
We walked into Melbourne which only took about 20 minutes. We both got a really good vibe from the place and liked it instantly.
