COPACABANA
cross-border bus. This time we were heading to Copacabana in Bolivia which was on the shores of Lake Titticaca, the world’s highest navigable lake. We were also due to meet Cheeky Phil from Antarctica and Santiago and Andie from Pachamama, so we were looking forward to catching up with people again.

The cross border bus was no luxury affair but thankfully when the sun came out the bus defrosted itself and we slowly started to get the feeling back in our fingers and toes. It really does get cold at altitude and no matter how many layers you put on you can still feel the cold, it almost like a new kind of cold! Thankfully the border crossing was as simple as the rest we’d experienced in South America. It consisted of very laid back border guards on either side and a couple of empanada sellers in the middle of no-mans land! So we grabbed ourselves an empanada whilst walking across no-man’s land and
into Bolivia, the last of our South American countries. The Bolivian guards were equally as chilled out as the Peruvians and before we knew it we were boarding the bus again and setting off on the short trip around the shore of Lake Titticaca to Copacabana.

We arrived into the town under a blanket of grey rain filled clouds, the place looked less than pretty but we have learned not to be too judgemental with first appearances so kept our minds open to the delights we may find in this small lakeside town. Our bus rather than heading into the town made a detour which seemed to confuse all of its passengers. Everybody was looking a little confused before we realised that the bus driver had just made a little detour to fill up with diesel!

We’d received an email from Andie saying that
