TOKYO
help us with the machine, we explained with the aid of the guide book we were veggie and low and behold they had veggie noodles on the menu. It was about £3.50 per person so we decided to share a bowl as the bowls looked fairly substantial! Yum they were lovely, so we were fairly chuffed that you could at least buy veggie food at a reasonable price. In fact we were starting to think that Japan was more like London prices than the outrageously expensive island we’d heard so many tales about.
After our lunch we headed off in the direction of the shrine and came across yet more punk/goths en-route to their concert which must have been starting in at least 5 hours time! We crossed over a road bridge then saw what looked like the entrance to the shrine. The walkway was paved with loads of little stalls selling everything from food to useless tacky rubbish! look better than we could have imagined and Rob would have no trouble finding stuff to eat, due to all of the fishy rice and noodle dishes. All of the food stalls seemed reasonably cheap so we knew we weren’t gonna starve in this city.
The shrine was impressive and very busy, there seemed to be lots of traditions being carried out again we weren’t really sure what was going on but it was fascinating to watch and we wandered around in utter amazement, it was a really lovely place.
After the shrine we walked down towards Tokyo station as we needed to know where it was, activate our Rail Passes and book some seats for the train to Mount Fuji in a couple of days time. It was good just to be wandering around and see some of Tokyo from the ground rather than just seeing endless metro
