ULURU
magical sight. Like I said early we were pleasantly surprised by this resort, they had a variety of touristy shops selling mainly nice things, a hairdressers which seemed a bit odd, a photo shop, chippy, loads of restaurants and a supermarket. Before hitting the supermarket we checked out car hire as it was expensive to take a bus to the rock so we wanted to weigh up if it was worth hiring a car for the day. Thankfully Thrifty had an offer on, so you got 1 days car rental with 200 free km and small insurance excess for $95 which works out around 40 quid!!! We thought this was a pretty good deal as Uluru was around 20 km away and the Olgas another impressive rock formation was around 50 km away, so if we hired a set of wheels we could go and check out in full both places. Sorted! We were to pick the car up around 9 am the next morning. We then went to check out the touristy shops and again could have spent a fortune, the aboriginal arts are fabulous but we had already bought ourselves a hand painted authentic
boomerang so no more souvenirs. Next stop always a favourite on Rob’s agenda, the supermarket! It was well stocked and not overpriced so we stocked up and headed back to the campsite.
No resort would be complete without the obligatory swimming pool and we had passed it on the way back from the shops so a quick change of clothes and we were off check it out. Thankfully you didn’t have to wear your fly net in the pool, so we were in no rush to get out. Although it has to be said it was a bit chilly, the sun wasn’t exactly beating down and there was a bit of a chilly wind, but it was still fantastic to be swimming in the desert again!!! Wow I would have never have thought in a million years that I would have swam in one pool in the desert let alone two!!! Amazing!
