KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
13TH - 18TH MAY
We arrived at Kruger National Park via the Orpen Gate and we were all very excited and couldn’t wait to get animal spotting. The lady at the check-in desk was very friendly and after completing all of the necessary paperwork and myself and Rob purchasing a Wild Card (national park pass) we were given directions to Tambotti tented camp. Wow, we were to be staying in a real safari tent and we weren’t too sure what to expect. Our camp was a satellite camp which is basically a separate camp with basic cooking facilities and no camp shop or bar. The bar didn’t matter as we were well stocked and had enough food to feed all of Kruger! After leaving the main camp we passed through the gate and into the actual national park. Denus from Jo’burg had told us that the first animals we could expect to see would be Impala, a small cute antelope, and he wasn’t wrong. No
sooner had we passed through the gate there was a big group of them to our left grazing in the afternoon sunshine. We were all very giddy by this point and were hoping to see the Big 5 on the way down to our camp - only kidding! Impala was all we saw, but it didn’t matter!
After pulling into the camp and parking up we headed down to our tent and we were highly delighted with it. It was great, had a wonderful veranda, braai pit, was right next to the fence and inside had 4 beds complete with towels, soap, lots of extra blankets and a fridge! It was fantastic and it was really good value for money. After bringing everything down from the car and generally sorting things out, we popped back to the shop for some charcoal as we figured it would be good to have a braai later on. We also purchased a booklet on Kruger, complete with map and animal chart! We were definitely going to need the chart as none
