NORTHERN THAILAND
26TH OCTOBER TO 6TH NOVEMEBER
We needed to sort out Vietnam visas so we headed straight for the Vietnamese Embassy. But we also needed to get passport photos so went to the nearest photo shop first, luckily it was a fairly decent shop and we asked the man if he knew anywhere where we could get our zoom lens fixed, he gave us the name of a place, so after we’d finished at the Embassy we headed off in search of this shop. This involved our first ride on Bangkok’s Sky Train. Wow, every city should have one, it was top, really fast and very cheap! It was great riding high above the streets and the traffic! So before we knew it we were entering the MKG shopping centre! What a place, it was huge! Eventually we found the camera shop, but unfortunately they couldn’t fix the lens, but said they thought it could be repaired and gave us the address for the main Canon repair centre. We also spotted a second hand image stabilising zoom lens. We had been thinking about replacing our zoom lens as it doestend to slightly blur the shots when fully zoomed out and I have trouble holding it steady enough. We tried the lens and negotiated a deal for our lens, we would only be-able to trade it in once it had been repaired but he was going to give us a good price. The lens was great although it kept coming up with a error message 1 which means that there is a camera to lens error, so we decided to steer clear! Phew the credit card was kept firmly in Rob’s wallet! We also spotted a great camera bag but we needed the next size up and the shop didn’t have any, perhaps as well really but I reckon we’ll get one fairly soon! We got out of the shop fairly quickly as we could have already spent a fortune and headed off in search of the Canon centre.
Another Sky Train ride but we had a quick change of plan, which involved more potential shopping! We hadn’t done any for so long I think we were both
