We had a good walk round the old part of the city and then went and checked out the Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Centre which was really interesting. It had loads of information about all of the local tribes people. We didn’t really want to go and visit any of the local villages and see their cultural shows as the guide book had said that some of them resembled a human zoo and a lot of the things now were only kept in place for tourists!

The main must do temple was Doi Suthep, a 40 minute songthaews (share taxi pickup thing) ride away. The temple is set on one of the outlying hills and is magnificent. The views of the city below were pretty good although we had just missed the sunset and it was going dark but we did get to see the temple lit up which was quite something. We were feeling pretty tired after this so the 40 ride
back into town was a welcome break for our aching feet! We went back to chill for a while as we weren’t too hungry as we’d eaten a fairly large lunch around 3 p.m. So much for the bed being rock hard, it didn’t stop me from falling asleep around 8.30 p.m. and sleeping right the way through to the morning! Rob went out to the 7 - 11 to buy some snacks whilst I was in the land of nod!

Our flight to Mae Hong Son wasn’t until the afternoon so we had the morning to check out a few more temples after stopping off at The Wall bar for a ‘healthy Vegetarian Breakfast’!!! Wow it was just like Rob used to make and very welcome due to my marathon sleep of the night before and Rob’s cup-a-soup and crisps for tea! We managed to get around a fair few temples and they all looked really beautiful and glittered in the sunlight. It was only a short tuk tuk ride to the airport and we pleasantly
