NORTHERN THAILAND
or less time to start heading back to the station for our next overnight train to Chiang Mai. We’d had a great day and we’re looking forward to the next time we are in Bangkok as this will give us time to check out the Grand Palace and other interesting stuff.

Chiang Mai
27th - 28th October
Had another good overnight train journey, and we arrived in Chiang Mai at 7.30 a.m. We’d pre-booked into Eagle Guest House which included a free pick-up from the station. They have two guesthouses and we’d booked into Guest House No 1 but when we got there, we were told that it was full and we would have to go to Guest House No 2. The only problem with that was that the second guest house was more expensive! Rob asked if we could have the room at the same rate as the one we’d booked and
we were told in no uncertain terms NO! We were told that this room was better and it had a hot shower, we said well if we’d have wanted to stay here we’d have booked it!!! The reception girl really annoyed us so we decided to go and find somewhere else. We ended up at Lek Guest House, which was cheap and cheerful, the owner was really friendly and we were only here for one night so it wasn’t so bad but the bed was rock hard!!!

After breakfast we headed down to the river to get a boat ride. There was only us and another couple in a fairly small wooden boat, but it was really pleasant. We headed up river for around 45 minutes before stopping at a Herb Garden cum Cookery School. We got shown around and the lad explained about all the different herbs, then we got a free lemongrass juice and big bowl of fruit! Then headed back off on our
