NEW SOUTH WALES
nasty things which could be lurking in the bush all around us!! I reckon we got quite an early night, although we did get woken up to the sound of rain quite early in the morning, which came as something of a surprise!! After the glorious hot sunshine day we’d just had, it was overcast. We’d already decided that we’d stay further into the Blue Mountains for the second night, and that meant staying at a caravan park, which would at least have a shower!!

As we pitched our tent at the caravan park in Blackheath, it just started drizzling, but undeterred we headed off to Scenic world in Katoomba, where the best views, and all the tourist attractions of the Blue Mountains were. We decided to walk over to the three sisters, the most famous rock formation in the area, and then down to the valley floor below. The views across the valley were pretty spectacular even in the slightly dodgy weather.
We made our way down the Giant Stairway, a very aptly named set of steps carved into the rock, into the pretty lush rainforest below, from where it was about an hour and a half’s walk to get to the easy ways back up to Scenic World - either a cable car, or a little train which used to haul coal up from the nearby disused mine. It is apparently the steepest railway in the world, and in no time at all whisked us back up to the Scenic World car park and saved us a very long walk up the cliff - we were most thankful as we were already pretty stiff from the walk down!!

We feasted on veggie sausages and mash with onion gravy for tea, washed down with some particuarly good Lindemans boxed red wine, and then after a good nights sleep we were up bright and early to head off towards the coast. Before we left though, we thought we’d check out Govetts Leap, the nearby viewpoint on the way out of
