NEW SOUTH WALES
park, which despite the name had lots of animals in it as well as birds. We got there just in time for the afternoon shows. There was only us and another girl there, so we got pretty personal treatment at the animal shows. First up were the snakes. The ranger brought out one each, but Hel was having none of it. I wasn’t keen at first, but then I decided what the hell, and consented to having this python hung around my neck! As it wasn’t poisonous (pythons are constrictors, and squeeze their prey to death), I wasn’t too troubled by it. (apart from when it started to stick it’s head up my shorts!!!), and snakes do feel amazing. Most people expect them to be slimy, but they’re actually really dry and cold. Then came the baby wombats. Now this was where we were really surprised. We didn’t really know what a wombat was, and we were expecting the baby to be really small. So when the ranger appeared with this animal over her shoulder that was the size of a spaniel, we were amazed!! It was really cute
though, and immediately ran for cover under the bench, as this mimics it’s behaviour in the wild, sheltering under it’s Mum!! They also had an even younger one, who was still fairly hefty that was brought to us in a shopping bag!!! The park was really well done, and consisted mostly of rescues animals. We saw our first Koalas, but it was too hot for them, and they were both fast asleep!! They were bigger than we thought, but defiantly very chilled!! We saw all kinds of animals, and we had bought a bag of food which you were allowed to feed them all with, which was a really nice touch. The highlight though was a “Kangaroo Enclosure”, where you were allowed to go in and hand feed Kangaroos. Again I was unsure about seeing kangaroos in a fenced off area so close to where they are in the wild, but again they were either rescued injured ones, or ones that had grown too used to human contact, and couldn’t’ survive in the wild. It really was a magical experience - after seeing so many of them in the
