NEW SOUTH WALES
Aborigine community there, and seemed a very strange place. There were some quite well to do houses with Aborigine kids playing outside. It dawned on us that these were the first Aborigine people we’d seen since arriving in Australia.
Pebbly Beach
4th - 6th Feb
Next stop was Pebbly Beach, a couple of hours down the coast. We’d read about a mob of kangaroos (and yes that it the right word - thanks to Jason for that one!!) who lived nearby, and were the main attraction. Rumour had it that they even went into the sea to cool off on hot days!! It was another great campsite, about 12 km down a gravel track to another forested campsite a short walk from the beach. This one, if anything, was nicer. There were no kangaroos to be seen

when we arrived, but there was an enormous ****goanna!! This was the biggest lizard we’d ever seen up close, and although it seemed pretty docile, we kept a safe distance!! We had planned to stay here for a couple of nights, but within an hour we decided it was so nice that we’d stay for three, which meant that I’d get to spend my birthday there!! We went for another swim, which was quite wild as it was much more of a surf beach, and the waves were pretty big - great fun! Although we did have to be careful as it was un-patrolled and the undercurrents were quite strong!
After an pretty chilled afternoon we decided to go and see if there was any sign of the kangaroos, as we’d heard that they came down to the beach to feed at dusk. Lo and behold there were a few of them near the car park. And despite the presence of loads of signs saying not to feed the kangaroos, and lots of detail about
