NEW SOUTH WALES
Thailand was the last time!! Another treat was in store as we headed back to the tent, as we turned a corner Hel nudged me and said “Look! It’s a kangaroo!!!” Actually it was a wallaby, but it looked like a kangaroo to us uninitiated Poms!! There it was just bouncing around and eating grass - a fascinating sight, and just the start of our Australian wildlife adventure!!! Later on we went for a walk along the rocks at the end of the beach, complete with armies of little crabs running in and out of the rocks, as far as the next campsite. On the way back we saw our first Kangaroo proper, and we realised our mistake with the wallaby when we saw this beast - it was huge!! Just lying down being very chilled, but it’s back legs in particular were enormous!! You definitely wouldn’t want to mess with this fellah!! There were also a couple of smaller females, who were more active and bouncing around. They didn’t seem to be bothered by the presence of humans at all, I guess they were well used to them
being around the park. We strolled back to our camp, and soon it was time to cook tea. The camp didn’t have a kitchen, but it had a couple of covered barbies which were just as good. You can cook virtually anything on these Aussie hotplate barbies, they’re ace - if ever we buy a house again I want one!! We were accompanied throughout our cooking and eating by an inquisitive possum. He was a very cute little thing, until another possum stumbled onto his patch, at which point an enormous ruckus ensued!! There were also some much smaller creatures which still remain unidentified - one of which decided to charge at us whilst we were eating - not really making us too scared, just more that a little surprised!!
The next day we went to check out the botanical garden, which was so interesting that we ended up walking every inch of the paths it contained, all five miles or so!! We then drove to the
