MENDOZA
more popular over here than white, but the white is still an excellent wine. We were shown around the factory part and told all about the wine making process. It was all very interesting but I suppose the best bit was saved till last - the actual tasting! We were all taken into the bar and had were presented with an enormous wine glass and given our first tasting. We were quite disappointed with the amount of wine we were given but there you go … we weren’t the only ones who thought they were a tad mean! It was funny, you had to swill the wine around, then smell it, by this you have to take a deep breath while holding your nose over the glass and really breathe in all of those flavours. Of course nobody could get what the favours or smells were. There was the usual, oak, chocolate, cinnamon etc. I’m really not sure how you could ever smell chocolate in wine but there you go, maybe that’s why I’m not a professional wine taster! Anyway the first wine was fairly good. The second was a Rose which was
very pleasant and could have been drunk in large quantities when served ice cold with a group of friends on a sunny afternoon/evening! Unfortunately we weren’t served any Malbec which was a bit disappointing but we were holding out great hope for the next place.
The next winery was a lot smaller. We were first shown the grapes and told about them and how they are processed etc. Then we headed into the winery and were shown all of the old machinery they used to use. We were given more details on the wine making process and told how this particular company made its sparkling wine and how time consuming that process is, as each bottle has to be turned individually every few days when it is maturing in the cellar, hence them only making one kind! Thankfully their wine tasting included our beloved Malbec and it was something else it has to be said. Again we didn’t get as much as we would have
