MENDOZA
liked but I guess these are wine tasting tours and not wine boozing tours!!! Still at least we didn’t have to spit it out! After our tasting we decided to treat ourselves to a bottle of their sparkling wine - the question was, would we have enough time to chill properly before we met up with Doris and Jacob later on?! We then visited a place where they made olive oil. This was really fascinating as we hadn’t expected it, and didn’t even know that they produced olive oil in these regions. It was a pretty traditional place, with lots of very old school looking pressing equipment. We were treated to some tastings and the oil really was top notch, although we didn’t buy any as it was in pretty fragile looking glass bottles!! They also made dried fruit and veg, so we bought a big bag of dried peppers for Andy’s birthday, apparently they are traditionally used in Argentina to make sausages - should suit him down to the ground then!! On the way back to Mendoza we made a detour to a famous church with a
stained glass window depicting the patron saint of wine making or something - to be honest it wasn’t very interesting, so we were glad when we climbed back into the minibus and headed back to the hostel.
After a quick shower to freshen up we were reading and waiting for Doris and Jacob. They were right on time and it was great to see them again. Doris’s Mum was over from Canada but she didn’t really get much chance to get a word in as we were nattering the night away like there was no tomorrow. Jacob drove into town and we went to an outside restaurant on one of the pedestrian streets for pizza and of course a few bottles of Argentines finest! Doris prefers white wine so we sampled our first bottle of white from a restaurant and it was almost as good as the red! We had a great evening chatting and laughing about all of our experiences since Antarctica and of course we reminisced somewhat
