something in Indian, we guessed he wasn’t too pleased and then he went back on his phone, we suspect to kick off at anyone he could manage to talk to! After a long hot wait a jeep arrived, now we thought our Tibetan Landcruiser was old but not compared to this thing! We climbed into the back and thought hmmm not so great! Just as we are about to set off we saw a brand new jeep approaching that was papping its horn continually, so we stopped and our original car driver jumped out of the jeep said something to the owner in Indian. He looked pleased and then we were told that this was our jeep and we were to travel back in style! PHEW we thought, a brand new fully air-conditioned jeep and thankfully this time they used the proper air-conditioning so off we went, the owner was pleased, the driver was pleased and had scored a few brownie points we thought and we were pleased as it was extremely comfortable, cool and new!
The owner was saying how sorry he had felt for us and was apologising for the car breaking down when all of a sudden the driver slammed on and I mean slammed on. We looked up to see a child right in the middle of the road and we were skidding towards him at an alarming rate of knots, I have never felt such a cold shudder in all my life, all of the hairs on the back of my neck were standing on end and I really thought that this poor child was about to the splat across the bull-bars of the jeep. Everything was in slow motion and all of our hearts were in our mouths as we (for what seemed like an age) came to a screeching to a halt and by some miracle this child, who had continued to walk calmly across the road was safely on the other side of the jeep, it doesn’t bear thinking about what would have happened if we hadn’t had stopped at that exact second. Extremely shaken the owner and driver got out and had a real go at the parents of this child. Apparently the father had shouted the boy and told him
