RAJASTHAN
tried to get commission from the hotel, he had followed us from his rickshaw we told him that we had pre-booked so he wouldn’t get commission but he told us that the owner was his friend and he was just calling in for a chat, we said he was more than welcome to go ahead of us but he just lingered and we had got to the point where we really couldn’t be bothered with him. It was only when we went for a drink at the rooftop bar that we saw him hassling the owner for his commission for him taking us there! Even though we had phoned up and booked the room the night before! The owner was telling him this and he was still insisting that he had taken us there, therefore he should be paid for his pleasure! They are the most untrustworthy people we have come across, they would drive you mad if you let them! Rob really hates them and will spend ages negotiating a price and will even argue over a rupee because they are that annoying!

We went out for a wander and in search of some new digs and went to the quieter part of town across the river. Udaipur is where they filmed Octopussy the James Bond classic and the city is very proud of the fact, every guest house and hotel seemed to advertise a screening of the film at some point during the day! We never got round to seeing it, but I never really liked it! I thought Sean Connery was the best Bond!!! It had some incredible architecture and the Palace Hotel which was a main highlight in Octopussy sat beautifully on its own little island in the middle of the lake. We were fortunate to see the lake with water in, as it had been dry for the past 8 months! We found a great little guest house, The Panorama, which had a great room overlooking the lake and was only 250 rupees a night, so we booked ourselves in and went for a drink at the rooftop bar and restaurant. We checked out the menu and decided to eat there as it had a great selection of western food and we still we slightly off curry!
