RAJASTHAN
exceptionally difficult to find your way around! As we had arrived early none of the streets had been cleaned so it was all looking a bit jaded and the smell in some parts was foul, so we were like hmmmm. After trudging around for a good hour we decided (much to Rob’s annoyance) that the map was rubbish and that we should just find somewhere else to stay, so we came across Yogi’s Guest House, which was based at the bottom of the fort and was well signposted! It was an incredible place, the building was a 500 year old Rajpurohitji-Ki-Haveli (old style house) the rooms simple but clean and it also had a great rooftop restaurant.
After a morning catching up on some sleep we ventured out again onto the streets of Jodhpur. Jodhpur is situated on the edge of the Great Thar Desert and has an incredibly impressive fort perched high on a rocky ridge giving excellent views of the blue city beneath. Most

of the houses in the old city are painted blue because traditionally they signified the home of a Brahmin, (member of a priest castle) but now is used as it is thought to be an effective mosquito repellent! We thought we would just go for a wander and see where we ended up, it was incredibly busy and very hot, the small streets were just crammed and the pollution was pretty bad, so after a quick wander we went back to our guest house and thought hmmm how long do we really want to stay here. We had also said that we would like to go on a camel, being in the desert and all that! Most of the camel safari’s went from Jaisalmer but as we weren’t going there we thought we’d try and find something nearer to Jodhpur. We checked out the good old Lonely Planet and found that there was a very plush 5 star Camel Camp at Osiyan about 65 km away, so we thought we’d drop them an email to see what was what, we also thought we may well get a good discount due to it being out of the main tourist season.
