UTTARANCHAL
seats! Phew! We managed to get through it and came out the other side wanting more! The Ganges didn’t disappoint, there were another 4 or 5 really big rapids which were equally as much fun as the first then it was swimming time again, and before we knew it we were heading towards the riverside camp for lunch. Lunch was lovely, a vast improvement from the peanut butter curry of the night before! We didn’t want to eat too much though as we didn’t think it would go to well with rafting! It was time to get back in the raft, we said goodbye to our morning rafters and now were due to go faster as there was only 6 of us in the raft. We hit our first rapid which wasn’t as big as the earlier ones but still good fun, then it was swimming time again. I had dumped all of the stuff from my pockets into the waterproof drum so decided it was time to take to the water! Wow I was floating in the Ganges! There were me and Rob floating about in the Holiest River in India! Time to get back in the raft again, this part of
the river was a lot more gentle and was a lot easier to paddle down, we went under the suspension bridge and right past where we were staying and onto the last rapid. What a day, it was brilliant, we both loved it and our very much looking forward to the next time we can go rafting.
As we were walking back from our rafting there was also a large tent in the main square over the bridge from where we were staying, it was incredible in there. There was lots of tribal drumming with people dancing wildly and throwing all sorts of coloured powder over each other! It was very mesmerising to watch and the drumming was fantastic. This was part of the massive religious festival that was being held in Rishikesh, and today was the main day for celebrations. Neither of us were sure about the festival as we aren’t in the slightest bit religious but seeing as the main event was going on the beach right in
