UTTARANCHAL
hardly going to break the bank! After a very bumpy and polluted ride through some pretty dismal streets we arrived at the Research Centre. It was a mighty impressive looking building which was supposed to have great Himalayan views. Now whether it was actually cloudy or the pollution was just too bad I don’t know, but there was not a mountain in sight! As we walked through the grounds we were amazed to see how much litter there was within the actual grounds of this place. In fact it has to be said that I am wholeheartedly disappointed with Indian’s attitude towards litter and the disposing of it. There hasn’t been one place that we have been to that hasn’t been spoiled by endless amounts of litter dumped everywhere, it is a disgrace. It appears that in India the bin is the floor regardless of where you are, it really is shocking! If it’s not careful it will end up sinking under the weight of its own waste. It appears that the government is completely incompetent when it comes to waste collection,
recycling is none existent and the vast majority of the people just throw everything and anything onto the floor, whether it’s a Himalayan mountain stream or middle of a city. Anyway …

We found the museum, bought our tickets for the grand sum of 5 rupees each so weren’t expecting too much, and it turned out that we were right not to!! I do wonder whether Lonely Planet actually bothers going to some of the places it reviews, it was pretty rubbish to say the least, but like a say what do you expect for 6p!!! We saw the dead wood exhibition, and a couple of other rooms which I wouldn’t really like to hazard a guess as to what they were displaying and then the place closed for lunch! We weren’t too disappointed by this so decided to cut our loses, get back to hotel grab our bags and get the hell out the place. There was a Vikram just outside the main gate so we jumped in and paid our 5
