UTTARANCHAL
the joys of our first train ride I can say neither of us were looking forward to another 5 hour train journey but at least on the next train we had a seat! We had an hour or so to kill at New Delhi station so we thought we would go and try and find a restaurant and get something to eat to kill the time - what fools! New Delhi station and the immediate surrounding area is one of the worst places we have been to in India, it is horrible! It is incredibly hectic, dirty, smelly, noisy and polluted so needless to say we didn’t find anywhere we fancied eating as all of the surrounding alleyways stank like a bad loo! We decided to find our platform and get a packet of crisps! The train arrived on time, we found our seats and off we went, arriving in Dehra Dun some 5 and a half hours later, but whilst we were on the train, we received a text from Steve to say that Jojo was asleep and contractions were every 5 minutes so it was gonna be today sometime! Wow! How excited were we, obviously not as much as Steve and
Jojo but we were pretty giddy all the same!
We jumped in an auto rickshaw and went straight to our hotel which we had previously booked due to us arriving fairly later and it being dark. Thankfully the hotel was nice, the room and shower were good so at last we felt like we could start to relax. We had decided to go and visit the Forest Research Institute before heading off to Mussoorie as it had been given a great write up in Lonely Planet. It explained that it was one of the best forest sciences centres in the world and also had a great museum, so we thought we would go and spend the morning there before we set off to Mussoorie. So off we went our first hurdle was trying to find the Vikram stand. A Vikram is just basically a large shared rickshaw taxi. Unfortunately the stand was no where to be found so we just got a normal rickshaw and paid a bit extra and as it was only 50 rupees it was
