FIJI
the beach with nice cold, ice cold beer - hmmm - guess we weren’t going to be tea-total in Fiji!!! Due to poor Rob not getting anything to eat on the plane it wasn’t long before we sampled the delights of Fijian cooking. There wasn’t much else other than resorts around by where we were staying so we decided to try the food at Horizon - I had veg curry and Rob had fish. Yum, it was fantastic and you got loads much to Rob’s delight! After a few more beers and very full tummies we were pretty much ready for bed.

It was heavenly to sleep in a bed again, it had been 9 and a half weeks since I had slept in a proper bed and the same for Rob bar one night in Auckland - it was bliss! We had a cracking nights sleep and woke up early due to us going to bed around 10.00 p.m.! Breakfast was included and was served by the pool which was rather pleasant. Our plan for the day was to head into Nadi
(pronounced “Nandi”) town, check it out, possibility do a bit of shopping and get some money. The bus into town stopped right outside the hostel and when it arrived it was very reminiscent of an Indian bus!!! I cost a grand total 60 cents to get into town - you get $3 to one £1 so I’ll let you do the workings out! The bus ride was fine, it was strange having open windows again but it made for good air conditioning. It was looking very similar to some parts of India but then again Fiji does have a large Indian population thanks to the British, so I guess it wasn’t a huge surprise. We pulled up just off Nadi’s main street and boy did it resemble an Indian town? The roads were semi chaotic, there was lots of noise and dust and as we started to walk along the main street we were confronted with a large number of extremely pushy salesmen! We both breathed a big sigh of relief that we weren’t actually staying in Nadi town, it was a lot nicer and quieter where we
