IGUAZU FALLS

10TH - 16TH NOVEMBER

We had a couple of nights back in Rio before heading out to the falls. Rio was fairly uneventful except for the ride of death in a taxi back from the bus station, this was one of the worst taxi rides either of us have experienced since being away travelling. The not so friendly taxi driver really should have thought about a career as an actual racing driver. His foot was firmly pressed down to the floor from almost the moment we sat down as we hurtled through Rio at an alarming rate, in a very old and battered car! We both breathed a great sign of relief when we pulled up outside our hostel, alive and still in one piece!!! After the hair raising taxi ride we decided to have a chilled evening and mainly used our time as a chance for us to upload photos and catch up on a few diaries. I again was allowed to upload photos and slogged away until gone midnight on our last night as we managed to get everything uploaded to Calgary, which we were very pleased

The trip hostel had been invaded by Uruguayan athletes and as a consequence we got talking to the only one of them who could speak a few words of English. His first words to us on finding out where we were from was “ah you like Freddie Mercury and Diego Forlan!”. Of course we agreed and didn’t really like to mention that Diego was a bit of a joke within the footballing world! But undeterred by the fact that nobody could really understand each other he went on to explain that he was from Frey Bentos, home of those famous old pies - remember the ones that came in a tin? Well that is certainly one thing I never expected from travelling, to have breakfast with a Uruguayan athlete from Frey Bentos, we couldn’t believe our luck! He was very proud of his hometown and he insisted we visit the place and the ex-meat factory that is now a museum! We dutifully
