ESTEROS DEL IBERá
The next morning we headed out into Mercedes armed with the tourist guide and today we were going to see the sights of Mercedes. We figured that this wouldn’t take long and we were right to think so! The historical tour took approximately 45 minutes!!! We did see a very nice church, a few historic buildings, the town hall and the main plaza but after that the sights were very limited to say the least! We spent the rest of the day catching up with diaries and photos and chilling around the hostel. We also met an nice English couple later on, who were also heading to Carlos Pellegrini on the same bus as us!!!
The next morning we did a quick internet session to see if there was any progress on the website but alas it was still the same - we were trying to ignore how annoying it was and thankfully we were heading to a village with no internet, so at least we could forget it for a few days! Our
bus arrived a little late and it was comical. It looked like one of those flower power buses from California in the 1950’s or early 60’s, it was ancient and the comfort level was the worst we’d had for a long time, but it was only 25 pesos (4 quid) for a 2-3 hour bus ride so we couldn’t complain too much! The journey was to be down a mainly dirt road, this really was getting into rural Argentina and it was wonderful to see such an undeveloped place. It had been a long time since we had seen anything like this, so although the bus was an antique, it seemed a sturdy runner if a little clunky on the old gear changes! We were keeping everything crossed that it wouldn’t breakdown! The scenery was flat, flat and even more flat! It was flat as pancake and you could see for miles and miles. The dirt road wasn’t too bumpy due to the road being of a sort of soil and sandy affair and we did have curtains to shield the blazing sun! Luxury or wha
