ESTEROS DEL IBERá
surprise we saw our first Caiman. There were about 4 of them, chilling out on the banks of the lake, they were a lot smaller than we had imagined but they still looked like it would be wise to give them a wide berth! They seemed very placid chilling out of the banks of the lake but you really wouldn’t want to get too close! We swapped camera lens and it was far easier seeing the amazing skin detail through the zoom lens and we got some really great shots. We also saw some of them in the water, it was really hard to spot them at first but once you’d seen one then you knew what to look for and believe me they really did look a formidable sight.

After this, we headed to the actual trail through the woods and it was here that we saw our first Capybara’s. As we were walking through the forest we heard lots of rustling and stopped to have a look around and to our joy we saw a family of Ca
pybara’s scurrying around in the undergrowth. They were huge things and the little baby was very cute. We stopped and watched them for a while trying not to get too close and scare them away. We both through that they were really charming in a funny sort of way and we hoped that we’d see a lot more of them.

We carried on through the forest and again heard lots of rustling this time through the trees. We stopped still and watched hoping to catch a glimpse of the Howler Monkeys. As we stood there we could heard the sound of them calling to each other, we were the only people in the woods and were keeping as still as we could in the hope of actually seeing one of them. Our patience paid off and we were rewarded with not only seeing one or two but the whole group. They were extremely playful and it was a joy to watch them playing in the trees.
