AMAZON BASIN - PAMPAS
Phew the plane had not yet left La Paz but we were heading to the airport which looked promising! Thankfully Rob was back by now and we got on the first minibus round to the airport. It was here that we realised we didn’t have to be so quick off the mark, we arrived at 12.20 and waited until 2 before we finally got on the plane! There was a huge sign of relief when we saw the plane trundling down the grass runway towards the boarding lounge!!! Oh how grand I make it sound!
The plane unloaded its passengers and luggage and we waited round for a little longer before we were all told to stop worrying and that we would all get on the plane! The next minute one of the military people asked if anyone wanted to sit upfront, of course there were loads of people shouting me, me, me! We were all thinking that one lucky person would be travelling in the cockpit as sort of compensation for being left
waiting for so long but oh no it wasn’t that at all. No, in fact they had over booked the plane which meant that one person had to travel with the luggage!!! Can you believe it? Thankfully most of the luggage was in the plane and not in a hold, but the person who’d thought his luck was in had the smile wiped off his face when he realised he was travelling in with the luggage!
We were both a little wary about actually getting on the plane; after all they can’t count the number of passengers and lets face it, there was only 30, and the fact that these planes don’t seem able to fly if there are clouds in the sky! But what can you do, other than cross your fingers and hope its your lucky day!
The jungle and pampas had been an incredible experience and one worth every minute of
