AMAZON BASIN - PAMPAS
Again the dorm was a mass affair, there must have been 20 beds in it, but thankfully there were only 4 people on this trip so we wouldn’t feel we were packed in like sardines! The camp was great, a very simple place but what more did you want than a bed, hammock and food? Again the food was included in the price and if the jungle food was anything to go by then we’d be just fine.
After settling in and having a nice cool shower, Rene asked if we wanted to go to the sunset. Of course we did, so we all headed back to the boat and set off into the wetlands once more. I can’t describe how wonderful it was just sitting there, feeling the sun and breeze fluttering through your hair and the sounds of nature all around. A lot of the time Rene would just stop the engine and let us float down stream and the sound of nature was ove
rwhelming. It may have taken us 2 days of hanging around an airport to get here, but boy was it worth it. It is one of the most peaceful things I can ever remember doing and definitely not one to forget.
The sun was sitting low in the sky and we were all wondering where we were heading when we turned a corner and saw a waterside sign saying ‘cold beers’ and Sunset bar relieved itself in all its splendour. I know it’s a very touristy thing but hey sometimes a sunset bar is just the icing on the cake! We grabbed ourselves a couple of beers and headed to the deck, well rickety platform where all and sundry were gathered enjoying a beer and the sunset just like ourselves! The next minutes we heard familiar voices and our names being called and we saw Alice and James who we’d met in La Paz. It was good to see them again and we were pleased to hear that they didn’t have any problems getting there
