AMAZON BASIN - PAMPAS
sunrise with a little saying ’Buenos Dias Senor Sol’ or in other words ’Good morning Mr Sun’! Senor Sol thanked us with a chameleon coloured sky and the sun emerged over the horizon to warm us even more.

After this we headed back to the camp for breakfast and this was when we had our first encounter with the resident alligator! Now I know its not very PC to go feeding animals things that they wouldn’t normally eat but how can you refuse an alligator his pancakes?! The alligator comes round most mornings for his daily dose of pancakes, apparently he loves them! So we watched while Rene fed him a few, then proceeded to give him pat on the head! Rene also insisted that I get close to this friendly resident, so if you’ve checked out the photos then you’ll see what I mean! I also don’t think I look at my most relaxed either!!!

After breakfast and chilling for an hour or so, we headed back out in the boat and went up one of the many waterways for an hour or so before heading off on a very narrow stretch of water. The water was so full of plants that we got stuck on more than one occasion and myself and Rob weren’t too happy about disturbing this place. It just didn’t seem quite right to be trying to drive the boat through all of this undisturbed plant life but there wasn’t much we could do about it, other than help try and get the boat moving again.

We finally got to a little island where we got out of the boat and went for a walk around. Rene showed us the bottom of a tree and we all had to go and had a closer look, and to our surprise there at the base of the tree all curled up was an Anaconda, the world’s largest snake. Thankfully this one was only a baby and appeared to be fast asleep so we left it
