AMAZON BASIN - PAMPAS
jaunt before heading back to camp. Each of these boat trips had been a unique experience and it was quite simply fantastic.

Back at camp we were treated to another wonderful and large meal. The mosquitoes were getting unbearable so after a couple of games of cards we decided to call it a night and have a very early night. We were pretty tired as we’d been up very early, but we read for a while under the safety of our mosquito nets before we turned out the lights and listened for one last time to the sound of the night. The air was alive with sounds but it wasn’t long before the sounds hypnotised you into a sound and deep sleep.

When I woke in the morning I realised how itchy I was, this wasn’t anything to do with bed bugs it was to do with how many bites I had. I was covered in
them, but I wasn’t the only one so we all had a “trying not to itch” breakfast! It was then cold showers all round before we discussed with Rene that none of us wanted to go Piranha fishing. Thankfully the two Danish girls weren’t into the idea either so we had one last wonderful boat trip into the exquisite pampas. I have to say that all of the fish are put back and not killed but I certainly didn’t like the thought of fishing for these snappy little things!

Our boat trip took us further than ever into the pampas, the sounds and views were outstanding, we saw what seemed like millions of birds of all different shapes and sizes, monkeys, turtles and some distant river dolphins playing around in the shallows. It is hard to describe the beauty of the place on paper and only a trip there can give you the true sense of the place, the smells, the sounds, the twinkling sunlight on the waters
